Thoughts initially going into this is that I’m kind of excited, I like going out and taking pictures, though I also struggle with being satisfied with what I end up getting. I’m a photography major, spending time out and about trying to get the right look to fit a specific ideal is a fun puzzle for me.

Questions and Topics for Your Blog Posting:

1. Describe Color and it's effects on emotions. Use the appropriate vocabulary of color in your posting.

Color feels like something that is tangible, and it is with how we interact with it, but color is simply a reflection of light waves, and our minds ability to process that information. The effect of specific colors on emotions depends greatly on the culture, and their attachments to it. But overall, humans, animals; it’s an evolutionary carryover, in many ways. Certain colors that are present when someone is ill, dying, or dead has lead us to form a psychologically negative connotation towards it. Likewise with “pleasant” colors, lush greens covering farmland versus the empty look of unyielding crops.

2. What is a theoretical aspect of color that most intrigues/fascinates you? Why?

Warm and cool tonal ranges are interesting to me because it’s one that people well outside the jargon of the art world use, it’s a concept very easily conveyed, and played with. A warm colored living room in your house, versus a cool colored bedroom, and how those potentially play an effect on one’s mental state. Also a big fan of the subtractive color mixing model: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black. For printing, and use with color film i find, having a familiarity with CMYK helps me when balancing pictures, whether I’m going for more of a warm or cool look, or something as neutral as possible. Color correcting is a class in and of itself, especially for photographers.
