2. Description – Describe what you see. (subject matter)?
There's a person in the foreground, off to the right of the image. Behind them are many buildings with trees in front of them. Looks like a sidewalk to the left of the person, from the viewers perspective. The person is wearing such a finely detailed shirt, given the relatively minimal surroundings.
3. Formal analysis – (form) What principles and elements were used and how are they used?
Initially, proportion and emphasis are two principles that stand out to me given the figure to the right of the image. The amount of space they take up in the image, and the patterns on their clothing are not seen anywhere else in the drawing.

2. Description – Describe what you see. (subject matter)?
Mixed group of people, sitting at what appears to be a diner, or some sort of eatery. The people appear tired, given their lowered heads and agape thoughts.
3. Formal analysis – (form) What principles and elements were used and how are they used?
This appears to be a relatively close, or tight image in terms of what space we're seeing, given that, the use of value is skillfully done to distinguish between the differing aspects within the information we're provided. Despite being able to tell that there are people within this drawing, you're also still able to distinguish the very geometric shapes used to indicate the figures.

Artist: Edgar DegasTitle of work: Little Dancer Aged Fourteen
Media: yellow wax, hair, ribbon, linen bodice, satin shoes, muslin tutu, wood base

2. Description – Describe what you see. (subject matter)?
Even by the title itself, one is able to see a ballet dancer, in a pose that doesn't look entirely relaxed, but neither ready to start either. Like they're actively waiting to begin, in a transition of sorts.
3. Formal analysis – (form) What principles and elements were used and how are they used?
Formally, there feels a unity to this piece. Everything appears proportionally accurate, like one would be looking at a miniature person standing in wait.
piece #4
Artist: Robert GoberTitle of work: Cat Litter
Media: Sculpture
Date: 1989
Size: w203 x h432 x d127 mm
Source of picture (URL): Cat Litter
1. Be receptive - Keep an open mind. Look for what is good. No put-downs allowed.
2. Description – Describe what you see. (subject matter)?
Bag propped up against a call, with a large detailed image of a smirking cat on the front. Below their head are the words, "Cat Litter" in a sans serif, basic headline type of font. Above the cat head is a thick red stripe circling the entity of the bag. A pin wheel looking image appears on a portion of it above and to the left (viewer perspective) of the cat.
3. Formal analysis – (form) What principles and elements were used and how are they used?
I chose this image because it felt humors to me. When artists take relatively mundane, everyday objects and rework them into pieces of art, I find that to be a fun play on everyday items. Sometimes it feels a bit more "radical" than others, like Duchamps Urinal. But I guess that depends on the viewer. Also enjoy the reception of people, often times being mad at an everyday item being considered art, and that "they could have done it." It's a playful idea.
With this image, I feel that they're using shapes and form in tandem to denote an object people are likely familiar with, bag of litter (or perhaps similarly a bag of coal). The image of the cat is so detailed given the canvas that is the bag that it sits upon. To me that provides a high level of contrast between the two dynamics at play there: An item meant to capture animal waste, and then this very pleasant image of the animal that'll be doing it.

Artist: Philippe CognéeTitle of work: Taj, "Tel Aviv"
Media: "Encaustique sur toile marouflée sur bois"(painting)
Date: 2012
Size: 153x200 cm

2. Description – Describe what you see. (subject matter)?
There's a city landscape; you see the greens and browns of the ground, leading up into what appears to be smaller buildings, and above that tall skyscraper like buildings. One of the buildings to the middle left (viewer perspective) appears to be misshapen compared to the buildings on either side of it, almost as though it is crumbling. Around the buildings is a blue sky.
3. Formal analysis – (form) What principles and elements were used and how are they used?
Contrast is at play here to help distinguish the building from one another, especially with the one building that looks as though it is crumbling. There's a serene, unifying feeling to this image, despite there also being a feeling that it's conveying a somber truth. Also a high level of use in values to help viewers perceive depth within the painting. I feel as though those smaller buildings are closer to me that the skyscrapers. They also appear lighter, and like they may be merchants.

2. Description – Describe what you see. (subject matter)?
There is a woman seated comfortably as she's being tended to by another person, a younger looking girl. This appears to be an intimate scene of either getting dressed and ready or the reverse, as the woman is wearing a light robe, and skirt, with her chest exposed, thought adorned with beautifully detailed jewelry. The girl is behind her, tending to her hair ornaments. The woman is seated in a very detailed, regal looking chair, with a tea kettle and cup behind her in the background.
3. Formal analysis – (form) What principles and elements were used and how are they used?
This painting has a lot of movement to it, in the background is a bamboo door panel that is being blow open some by the wind, flowing in the same direction of, and mimicking somewhat, the woman's long flowing skirt. This image has a very balanced and relaxed tone to it, harmonious with what the image displays itself. The space between the objects to denote their location is done so believably, they don't look cramped into the image, they appear to comfortable take up their space without issue.
